The Strokes Announce LA Benefit Show

A stroke of good luck for Strokes fans today as the New York indie band announced a benefit concert for the homeless on July 25 at Los Angeles’ historic The Wiltern. The vintage rockers only LA-area gig will raise funds for three local nonprofits which support the city’s homeless community: The Center in Hollywood, Waste Not Want Not Now, and the Downtown Women’s Center.

“Homelessness and mental health are big issues in LA and we’re happy to do a little something that can hopefully help a bit. The Center in Hollywood and Waste Not Want Not Now are great, well-intentioned and trustworthy charities doing wonderful work,” Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas said in a press release. All of the net proceeds from the Live Nation concert will go to the aforementioned charity organizations. The good deed show comes just weeks after the release of the Strokes’ excellent Future Present Past EP. The mercurial band which has had its ups and downs over a nearly 20-year career, has been busy of late, slaying their hometown Governor’s Ball appearance last month and is set to headline Australia’s Splendour In The Grass Festival on July 22nd. Tickets for the City of Angels Benefit Concert are on sale via Ticketmaster this Thursday, July 7, at 12:00 p.m. PT.
