The actress shared an Instagram Story on November 4, impersonating Haley Stevens shortly after Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Senate race.
In the video, Einbinder mimicked Stevens’ distinctive speaking style, saying, “We’re gonna give ’em a little bit of energy, a little bit of pow, a little bit of stick it to ’em, cos that’s the Michigan way!”
Einbinder later shared another Instagram Story celebrating the senator-elect’s victory.
The comedian had previously promised on election night that she would perform a “perfect” impression of Stevens if El-Sayed won.
In the video, Einbinder wore a gray and green striped sweatshirt while sitting beside another woman at what appeared to be a bar or restaurant. A television behind them displayed election-related coverage.
The impression followed a closely contested Senate race in which El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers, becoming the first Muslim elected to the US Senate.
Stevens, who lost the Democratic primary to El-Sayed in August, had received substantial backing from AIPAC and affiliated pro-Israel groups. Meanwhile, El-Sayed has been a vocal critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Their political differences contributed to tensions during the campaign. Just two days before the November 3 election, Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers instead of supporting her party’s nominee.
Her decision drew criticism from Democratic leaders. Political strategist James Carville also warned Stevens about the potential consequences for her career.
Despite the last-minute endorsement controversy, El-Sayed secured the Senate seat. Einbinder’s impression added a humorous response to the political tensions surrounding his victory.
