Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton took different approaches to Halloween this year. Their social media activity has prompted one commentator to suggest that the two royals have, in some ways, switched their usual approaches to sharing family moments online. However, Meghan and Kate continue to maintain distance following the Sussexes’ return to the UK.
Commentator claims Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton switched roles for Halloween
Last Halloween, Meghan shared an Instagram Reel showing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet visiting a pumpkin patch. According to GB News, the Duchess of Sussex has previously used social media to share glimpses of her family life.
This year, however, Meghan did not share a similar Halloween update. There has been speculation about whether recent controversies involving her father, Thomas Markle, influenced her decision to remain quiet on social media. Thomas has faced allegations involving child sexual abuse, which he has denied. However, there is no confirmation that those allegations were the reason for Meghan’s lack of a Halloween post.
Kate, meanwhile, took a different approach. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a previously unseen photograph of a young Prince Louis posing beside a pumpkin. The image was reportedly taken by Catherine when Louis was around one year old.
The post represented a relatively personal social media update from the royal family, which has traditionally used its official accounts primarily for announcements, public engagements and other official activities.
A GB News commentator suggested that sharing the throwback image was a deliberate way for Kate and the royal family to mark Halloween while maintaining their approach to protecting the children’s privacy. Using an older photograph allowed the family to acknowledge the occasion without sharing a new image of Louis.
The approach also reflects changes in how Kate has used social media in recent years. The Princess of Wales has become more visible online while continuing to keep her children’s private lives largely away from the public eye.
The commentator’s comparison suggests that the two women have taken different approaches to personal social media posts this Halloween. Meghan, who previously shared family moments more openly, did not post a Halloween update this year, while Kate used an older family photograph to mark the occasion.
