Skyler Gisondo got a musical perk few fans could imagine while filming alongside Ariana Grande. The actor heard some of Grande’s unreleased songs on the set of Focker-in-Law, where she played his fiancée.
The experience left quite an impression on Gisondo, who praised the singer’s talent, work ethic, and generosity. Their upcoming comedy also reunited him with Ben Stiller, his former Night at the Museum 3 co-star.
Ariana surprised Skyler Gisondo with unreleased tracks on the Focker-in-Law set
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gisondo recalled Grande playing unreleased music during filming. He admitted telling her, “Nobody should be able to do this.” He described her as an extraordinary performer with an operatic vocal range, impressive dancing skills and effortless comedic timing.
Gisondo also admired how seriously Grande approached her work. He called her a perfectionist who cared deeply about every detail. Despite her global fame, he said she remained kind, collaborative and considerate toward everyone. He recalled deferring to her during scenes, only for Grande to encourage him to make his own choices. “No, no, whatever you want,” she told him. Gisondo joked, “You’re Ariana Grande, whatever you want.”
Grande starred opposite Gisondo in Focker-in-Law, which also brought Stiller back into his life. The actor first worked with Stiller on Night at the Museum 3 when he was 17. They reunited 12 years later, with Gisondo grateful for their existing connection. He remembered Stiller taking him under his wing during that formative experience.
The film arrived as Gisondo enjoyed a particularly busy career stretch. He earned a Gotham Awards nomination for Primetime, opposite Robert Pattinson. He also received a Breaking Big honor at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Meanwhile, he reprised Jimmy Olsen for Man of Tomorrow and continued work on The People vs. Gorilla Grodd.
Away from acting, Gisondo landed his first fashion campaign with Bonobos. Its holiday campaign, “Dashing Through the Holidays,” showcased his comedic timing. He said the clothes reflected his evolving personal style, which increasingly favored classic, comfortable pieces and vintage finds.
Still, Grande’s musical surprise offered one especially memorable behind-the-scenes moment. Gisondo’s enthusiasm suggested audiences would soon see another side of the pop superstar.
