‘Two and a Half Men’ Star Sets Record Straight on Shocking Salary Claim

Melanie Lynskey tackled a rumor about her sitcom payday. The actress said online estimates exaggerated her Two and a Half Men earnings, leaving out deductions that cut into her actual income.

The conversation began when Lynskey weighed in on a discussion about the CBS comedy. She explained what the job paid and how much she took home.

Melanie Lynskey says her actual pay was far below online estimates

PEOPLE reported that Lynskey responded under an Instagram video featuring Holland Taylor discussing her experience on the sitcom. The clip came from the Alchemy with Anthony Mason podcast, where Taylor, 83, recalled: “I got four Emmy nominations, and they never gave me a raise. They usually do.”

An Instagram commenter claimed Lynskey earned between $200,000 and $300,000 per episode. Lynskey rejected the estimate in a reply reported by E!. “Hey! Sorry, but this insane number is floating around on the internet and I must tell you how wrong it is,” she wrote.

She said her actual pay amounted to one-tenth of the rumored figure. “I made literally one tenth of that stated number per episode,” Lynskey explained. She added that agents, managers, business managers and taxes took cuts. “This is before agents, managers, business managers’ cuts, and taxes, so you take home around 50% of what you are paid.”

Lynskey also challenged the idea that the sitcom made her a millionaire. “I was extremely grateful for the job, and for the money,” she wrote. The income covered her small mortgage and bills while allowing her to keep making independent movies. That work helped her build beyond television. She called the idea that she had made millions “so ridiculous.”

Lynskey played Rose, Charlie Harper’s neighbor, who had a one-night stand with him before becoming his longtime stalker. Charlie Sheen starred as the bachelor, while Jon Cryer played his newly divorced brother, Alan. Taylor portrayed their mother.

The CBS comedy premiered in 2003, following Charlie’s bachelor routine until Alan and his 10-year-old son moved in. Lynskey’s clarification offered a reminder: a headline salary rarely reflects an actor’s actual take-home pay.
