Jack Lowden has addressed speculation linking him to the next James Bond role. The Slow Horses star has emerged as a name in conversations about the casting, with Gary Oldman’s public support adding to the attention surrounding the possibility.
Jack Lowden addresses James Bond casting speculation and Gary Oldman’s support
In a recent interview with GQ, Lowden discussed the growing speculation surrounding the next James Bond. The actor was asked about Oldman’s comments supporting him for the iconic role. Oldman had previously suggested that he had heard the next 007 had already been cast.
He also publicly expressed hope that Lowden would become the next Bond. The endorsement fueled further speculation about the Scottish actor’s potential casting. However, Lowden remained careful when discussing the possibility.
“On this… It’s all very flattering,” he said. He added, “It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role.” However, he made clear that he did not want to contribute to the speculation.
“I’m just not really going to add to the noise,” Lowden said. He also described Oldman as “a sweetheart.” The actor said the praise felt particularly meaningful coming from someone he admired.
Lowden also suggested that Bond speculation often follows certain casting patterns. “As a young male actor, generally, the minute you’re not playing a zany artist type, the minute you’re in a suit, people fling it at you,” he said. He then shifted attention toward his current work.
Lowden currently stars as River Cartwright in Apple TV+’s acclaimed series Slow Horses. His performance has earned praise from the show’s creator, Will Smith. Smith called him “the full package,” praising his action, comedy, and emotional performances.
The actor also spoke warmly about working alongside Oldman. He described his co-star as “routinely the most prepared actor.” Lowden particularly admired Oldman’s professionalism and ability to avoid taking himself too seriously.
Interestingly, Lowden has another major role coming soon. He will play Mr. Darcy opposite Emma Corrin in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation. The actor admitted the role initially made him hesitate because Austen’s work felt precious to him.
For now, Lowden has not confirmed whether he has been involved in the Bond casting process. His comments neither confirm nor deny the possibility of him playing 007, leaving the speculation unresolved.
