Stevie Nicks recalls a turning point in their partnership

Stevie Nicks opened up about a turning point in her partnership with Lindsey Buckingham while opening the song Landslide at the City of Hope 2026 Music, Film and Entertainment Industry (MFEI) Spirit of Life Gala. She said, “I wrote this song in Aspen, Colorado, when I was deciding whether or not Lindsey [Buckingham] and I should continue. Well, it was a long time ago, and 930,000 years later, we still continued.”

Nicks wrote the song while questioning her career and the future of her relationship with long-time musical collector Lindsey Buckingham. Their romance started in the ‘ 70s before they joined Fleetwood Mac; their relationship ended; however, their creative partnership continued.

Nicks explained that she wrote the song while she “was looking out over the snow-covered hills in this beautiful house.” People around her went for dinner, and she wrote the song. She said, “I’m like, okay, because I’m so poor that just sitting in this house when you’re looking out at this view is so fantastic, I’m going to write a fantastic song. I just happened to bring my Goya [guitar], which I could hardly play, but I thought it looked good, so I wrote this song.”

The song Landslide shares a glimpse into uncertainty surrounding her relationship before their lives became entangled professionally. The pair met in high school in California and started dating in 1972. They connected with Mick Fleetwood in 1974 and later joined Fleetwood Mac. The band also consisted of Christine McVie and John McVie. In 1975, Fleetwood Mac released her song Landslide,  which became an instant hit. (via PEOPLE)

Nicks relationship with Buckingham ended in 1976, and the band recorded Rumours, which was a landmark album.

Despite the end of their romance, Nicks and Buckingham continued their professional journey together.
