Kendall Jenner says cancel culture and years of public scrutiny have made the Kardashian-Jenner family more cautious about what they share on reality TV. Reflecting on the differences between Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Hulu’s The Kardashians, the model explained that she and her sisters have become more guarded because of public criticism and misleading narratives.
Kendall Jenner blames cancel culture for her family’s guarded behavior on The Kardashians
During the October 29 episode of The Kardashians, Kendall discussed how the family’s approach to reality television has changed since Keeping Up with the Kardashians ended its 20-season run in 2021.
As per People, Kendall said in a confessional, “Cancel culture definitely plays a role into certain things.” She added, “You can go back and watch old episodes of our show, and I think everything was just a little bit more free.”
She explained that years of scrutiny had affected how openly the family behaved on camera. “We’ve now gone through years of scrutiny or false narratives. Being me or one of my sisters, you’re naturally gonna be more guarded,” she explained. “It’s definitely gotten worse. But I think caring the least amount about it is probably the safest way.”
Kendall’s comments came during a conversation with Scott Disick about some of his controversial moments on the original series. They revisited a 2010 episode in which Disick, while drunk, shoved money into a waiter’s mouth after Kris Jenner cut him off during dinner.
Kendall described the scene as “iconic,” though “not in a good way.” Disick described his behavior as “horrific” and acknowledged that watching the footage again would make him cringe. Still, Kendall acknowledged that the older episodes contained funny moments, particularly those featuring Disick and Rob Kardashian.
The family has shared its lives on television since 2007. At the time, Kris viewed the show as an opportunity to promote the family’s businesses and create new opportunities. In an interview with Vogue Arabia, she recalled her initial optimism about the show. Kris explained that she saw it as “an immediate marketing tool” rather than a gamble.
However, Kendall’s remarks suggest that years in the public eye have made the family more selective about what they share.
New episodes of The Kardashians stream on Thursdays on Hulu.
