Heidi Fleiss took her dispute with Nevada officials to court after receiving citations involving her free-roaming parrots. According to court documents obtained, the former Hollywood madam challenged fines issued by Clark County Animal Protection Services after a neighbor complained about the birds flying around her property.
Heidi Fleiss is fighting citations involving her free-roaming birds
As per TMZ, officials cited Fleiss earlier this year after receiving complaints that her parrots had been roaming beyond her property. Her neighbor claimed the birds perched on telephone wires near a bedroom window and began “squawking” before 6 a.m. The documents said Animal Protection Services responded to the property several times over the complaints.
Fleiss later contested the citations during a court hearing. She argued that the law unfairly restricted the birds and maintained that parrots should be able to fly freely. She also asked the court to dismiss the $500 in fines connected to the dispute.
Government officials acknowledged in their filing that birds could benefit from flying freely. However, they pushed back against Fleiss’ argument that the parrots should therefore be considered truly free.
According to the government, the birds had previously been captured, removed from their native environments and kept as pets by Fleiss. Clark County Animal Protection Services therefore argued that the court should uphold the fines.
The disagreement centered on whether Fleiss should face penalties for allowing the parrots to roam outside the boundaries expected for domesticated animals. Fleiss maintained that restricting their movement went against their natural behavior, while county officials argued that their status as pets still made her responsible for controlling them.
The case remained ongoing, and the supplied source did not indicate that the court had reached a final decision. For now, Fleiss continued challenging the citations as the dispute over her birds moved through the legal process.
