Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa hit a rough patch in the rehearsal room when their Dancing With the Stars partnership got tense. The actress eventually called her dance partner a “cranky bitch,” but the blunt remark came with affection rather than a feud.
The pair prepared an Argentine tango for Horror Movie Night, dancing to “The Omen” as Sosa pushed Stiles harder than usual. He wanted her to prove she could compete with fellow contestants Jenna Dewan and Amber Glenn, who were also tackling the demanding style. However, his tough coaching quickly tested Stiles’ patience.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sosa warned Stiles at the start of rehearsal, “Be prepared because I’m not going to go easy on you this week.” His corrections soon overwhelmed her, particularly his repeated notes about avoiding heel leads. “I just don’t respond well to frustration,” Stiles told him. She explained that constant criticism didn’t bring out her best work. “What gets the best work out of me is to not be like, ‘You’re doing it wrong! You’re just doing this, and you’re just doing that!’”
Sosa later questioned whether he had pushed too hard. “I want to push her because I know her excellence; I know what she can bring to the table,” he said in his confessional. “And I just don’t want her to be disappointed when we perform this routine.” He eventually apologized, admitting he had gone too far. Stiles reassured him that she could handle the criticism and understood his role as her coach. Then she delivered the line that put their disagreement into perspective.
“I love you; you don’t have to apologize,” she told Sosa. “I think you need to get more sleep, because you’re a cranky bitch when you’re tired.” Sosa agreed with her diagnosis, replying, “I’m just tired.”
Unfortunately, their reconciliation didn’t translate into a standout performance. Guest judge Shirley Ballas criticized their slow movements and posture. Carrie Ann Inaba said the routine felt more tense than their previous dances. Derek Hough also found their performance too cautious, calling it a potential low point in Stiles’ journey.
The judges awarded the pair 26 out of 40 points. Stiles and Sosa now face the challenge of turning that rocky rehearsal into motivation for next week.
