JoJo Siwa dreamed up a Christmas plan that would let her celebrate with both families, but her boyfriend Chris Hughes quickly spotted a festive flaw. The long-distance couple still had no concrete holiday arrangements, and their ambitious travel idea already faced some serious objections.
The pair discussed their plans while attending the Gala of the Stars benefiting Dancers Against Cancer on Thursday, Oct. 22. After spending the previous Christmas together in England, the couple admitted they were less organized this year.
Boyfriend Chris Hughes pokes holes in their proposed Christmas plans
In an interview with Us Weekly, Siwa, 23, joked, “We would love to know,” when asked about their holiday arrangements. Hughes, 33, explained that last year’s plans had been settled well in advance, but their next destination remained uncertain. “I actually don’t know where we’ll be,” he admitted. “I might be over here. We could be over there, or we could just split it between the two.”
Siwa immediately proposed a solution that sounded wonderfully ambitious, at least until the logistics entered the conversation. “We would wake up in the morning in England on Christmas, but get on an airplane midday,” she suggested. “We would land here on Christmas, so we could actually spend Christmas in both!”
Hughes appreciated the enthusiasm but wasn’t sold on the itinerary. “The issue is you’d miss the Christmas lunch, though, don’t you?” he pointed out. He ultimately delivered a brutal verdict: “It’s one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard.” Instead, the Love Island UK alum suggested alternating countries each year. “Switch over. That’s the fair way to do it,” he said, making a considerably less exhausting case for holiday diplomacy.
The couple, who began dating in 2025 after meeting on Celebrity Big Brother UK, have also been figuring out domestic life together. Siwa purchased their home, where Hughes confirmed he had his own closet, cabinet and drawer. However, they shared one bathroom sink, which Siwa defended by joking that a separate sink for him would inevitably get gross.
Reflecting on their first year together, Hughes said they had learned about each other while navigating long distance. Siwa celebrated their anniversary in May with a heartfelt Instagram tribute, calling Hughes her “bestest friend” and describing their year as beautiful.
