Nev Schulman hinted that Catfish could return after the MTV series ended in 2025. The longtime host said discussions were underway about bringing the franchise back in some form as viewers continued asking for its return.
Schulman has also reunited creatively with former co-host Max Joseph, with whom he worked on the web series Running Errands.
Nev Schulman says he and Max Joseph are discussing the show’s future
Schulman said he still missed Catfish and enjoyed working with Joseph again.
“We’re working on it,” Schulman said while discussing the possibility of another Catfish project. “There are some things in the mix, and some talks are happening about bringing it back in one or more ways.”
OK! reported that he stopped short of confirming a traditional Catfish reboot or revealing where a new version could appear.
Schulman said continued interest from fans had helped keep the idea alive. According to him, people still contact him through emails and direct messages seeking help with suspicious online relationships.
He also believes advancements in artificial intelligence have created new opportunities for fake identities and online scams, giving the show’s original premise fresh relevance.
“The [fans] want it back,” Schulman said. He added that he and the team still need to determine how they want to return.
Since Catfish ended, Schulman has explored other interests, including real estate and community work in New York. He said he enjoys building relationships, looking at properties and becoming more involved in issues affecting his local community.
Running has also remained a major part of his life. Schulman is preparing for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon and plans to run alongside his wife, Laura Perlongo. He said his recovery from a broken neck in 2024 has not negatively affected his running.
Still, Catfish clearly remains important to Schulman. His continued work with Joseph and the ongoing discussions about the franchise suggest that the door remains open for some form of return.
