Kaley Cuoco‘s name has emerged in the ongoing legal battle involving Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter. Melissa Schuman testified during a deposition that she confided in Cuoco days after Carter allegedly sexually assaulted her. The revelation emerged from a deposition transcript obtained by TMZ.
Melissa Schuman says she confided in Kaley after the alleged incident
Schuman, a former member of the girl group Dream, accused Carter of sexually assaulting her around 2003. She alleges that Carter assaulted her at an apartment in Santa Monica when she was 18. Carter was reportedly 22 at the time, and he has repeatedly denied the allegations.
According to TMZ, Schuman discussed whom she told about the alleged incident during an April deposition. She testified that she confided in Cuoco on the final day of filming their movie, The Hollow. The film, which also featured Carter, was released in 2004.
Schuman also testified that Carter contacted her after she returned to the film set. She alleged he sent her a text message and called her afterwards. During the call, she claimed he described her as a “manipulative bitch.”
However, a source close to the case told TMZ that Cuoco had not been deposed to “attest to the veracity of” Schuman’s claims. The source also claimed that several people who worked on the film testified that Schuman had not mentioned any alleged assault. Schuman’s testimony about confiding in Cuoco does not independently establish whether the alleged assault occurred.
Schuman filed a police report in 2017, but authorities never filed criminal charges. She and another woman, Shannon Ruth, later brought separate lawsuits against Carter over alleged sexual assaults. Both cases remain ongoing.
Carter has strongly denied the accusations and filed a countersuit against the women. He alleged that the women conspired to extort money from him. He also claims that Schuman’s allegations cost him millions in business and endorsement deals.
In his own lawsuit, Carter described the encounter with Schuman as consensual. His filing stated, “At no point in time did [Nick] sexually assault [Melissa] or any other person.” These statements represent Carter’s position in the dispute, while Schuman’s allegations remain contested.
Cuoco’s involvement in the public discussion stems solely from Schuman’s deposition testimony. However, the available report does not indicate that Cuoco has accused Carter of wrongdoing. The legal proceedings involving Carter and both women remain ongoing.
