Hillary Clinton Calls Out Matthew McConaughey Over Midterm Election Warning

Hillary Clinton called out Matthew McConaughey over his call for voters to support independent and third-party candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. The former secretary of state argued that the actor is making it harder for Democrats to counter President Donald Trump.

Hillary argues Matthew’s independent voting message could benefit Donald Trump

Speaking on the podcast High Stakes with liberal journalist Kara Swisher, Clinton said, “I think it’s really unfortunate that somebody who’s such a great actor with such a reach would suggest — two weeks before a midterm that is aimed at stopping Trump’s corruption, impunity and extreme damage to the country — that any independent candidate is really a better choice.”

She continued, “Right now, we have a broad range of Democrats running, and Democrats are representing, I think, every kind of American in these elections. And we know, I mean, it’s just a fact.” She said that voters must support Democratic candidates to defeat Republicans. Otherwise, Trump would have two more years without checks on his power. She warned that he could use that time to do whatever he wanted to the country.

McConaughey, who has often discussed the possibility of running for governor of Texas, though he has not entered the race, recently posted a video. He said, “So, they’ve been telling us for years that an independent vote is a wasted vote. Well, a great question for our times is: How’s that unwasted vote been working out for you?” He argued that “Independent” is the leading political identity in America.

In recent months, Clinton and her husband, Bill Clinton, have made efforts to campaign for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterms, which will take place on November 3. The former President joined David Jolly, the Democratic nominee for Florida governor, for a high-profile campaign appearance on October 20. The event took place at the Koinonia Worship Center in Pembroke Park, Florida.
