Meghan Markle’s affectionate description of herself as a “Daddy’s Girl” in her 2022 Netflix documentary has resurfaced amid serious allegations involving her father, Thomas Markle Sr. The renewed attention has also drawn fresh focus to Meghan’s explanation for keeping her father away from her children. However, her earlier remarks do not establish what she knew about the allegations or when she learned about them.
Meghan Markle’s 2022 ‘Daddy’s Girl’ Netflix comment resurfaces amid father’s investigation
In the Netflix documentary she made with Prince Harry, Meghan recalled sharing a close relationship with her father throughout her childhood. She described herself as a “Daddy’s Girl my whole life,” reflecting the bond they shared before their relationship deteriorated.
According to the Daily Mail, reports of allegations involving Thomas Sr. have renewed attention to Meghan’s 2022 comments. The allegations concern a collection of child sexual abuse images reportedly found at his home in the Philippines. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly alerted police. Thomas Sr. has denied the accusations, dismissing them as “a bunch of lies.”
The renewed scrutiny follows Meghan’s recent account that the Metropolitan Police received a letter containing what she described as “troubling and disturbing allegations” against her father. Meghan said these concerns influenced her decision to keep Thomas Sr. away from her children, Archie and Lilibet, because she wanted to protect them.
However, it remains unclear when Meghan learned about the letter’s alleged contents. Her 2022 description of her childhood relationship with her father does not, on its own, establish what she knew about the allegations at the time or suggest that she had been dishonest.
Thomas Jr. reportedly made the allegations against his father, but his half-sister Samantha Markle strongly rejected his claims. Samantha accused her brother of fabricating the allegations to make money and defended their father. “There is no merit in these disgusting allegations whatsoever, and my brother is disgusting for making them up,” she told the Daily Mail. “He wants to destroy our dad. Shame on him.” Thomas Sr. has also denied the claims.
