Jonathan Lipnicki, who rose to fame as a child star in Tom Cruise‘s Jerry Maguire, is setting the record straight about comments he made about his Hollywood career. The 36-year-old actor said his remarks were “taken way out of context” and admitted that the way they were interpreted bothered him.

The former child star, who now appears in A24’s Primetime as an online target known as Crazyfrog73, discussed his career trajectory in a People interview published last year. One remark in particular drew attention: “I pray every night for clarity on where I need to go.”
Lipnicki has now addressed the comments while promoting Primetime in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I definitely wanna set the record straight on that. That was taken way out of context…and it actually bugged me a bit,” he said.
“I was saying that it’s a positive thing, right? If you have something to strive for, something to work towards, it gives you purpose,” Lipnicki added.
After starring in several well-known movies as a child, including Jerry Maguire, Stuart Little, and Like Mike, Lipnicki reflected on his career in a 2015 People interview. “It’s totally fine to say I’m not where I want to be career-wise,” he said.
However, Lipnicki emphasized that he is comfortable with how his career has unfolded. “I’m totally okay with everything that’s happened,” he told EW. He added that he is grateful for his past career, happy with where he is now. Moreover, he says that he is excited about what lies ahead.
Lipnicki also offered more context for his comments about prayer, explaining that gratitude is an important part of his practice.
“I pray because I’m grateful. And I also pray for clarity, and I pray for the best things to happen, of course. But the most important parts of my prayers are praying for other people that are dear to me, that I love.”
