Charli D’Amelio says her 10-month run in Broadway’s “& Juliet” helped her rediscover her love for dancing and rethink her future. The 22-year-old social media star says the experience gave her more independence and helped her understand who she wants to become outside the career she built with her family.
Charli D’Amelio’s run in ‘& Juliet’ reignited her love of performing and helped reshape her career plans
After completing her run in “& Juliet,” where she sang and danced with the ensemble, Charli returned to California and moved into a house in Valley Village earlier this year. The show earned her positive reviews, but it also gave her a chance to live on her own and discover who she is outside the spotlight, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Charli has spent years building her career alongside her family and has become one of the most recognizable stars to rise from TikTok. Now, she has started building more independence in her professional and financial life, separate from the family that helped her achieve success. “I’m figuring out who I want to be,” she said. “And that’s what I’m really excited for.”
When asked what prompted her to rethink her career direction, Charli credited her Broadway experience. She had chosen the role in “& Juliet” herself, and the opportunity turned out to be surprisingly fulfilling. “This is probably going to sound really crazy,” she said. D’Amelio added that Broadway was “the easiest thing I had ever done.”
Charli added that she felt proud of her work and enjoyed the routine of showing up for performances each day. “I showed up every day with a smile on my face, and I loved every second of it,” she said.
The production also helped Charli reconnect with the person she was before fame. She said the experience reignited her love for dancing and performing. During her Broadway run, Charli moved to New York without her family. She then settled in Columbus Circle to stay close to the theater.
After years of being the main attraction, joining an ensemble of dancers offered a different experience. Instead of carrying the pressure of being the central figure, she could work alongside other performers, learn from them, and build friendships. Charli described the change as a “relief,” highlighting how comfortable she felt as part of a larger team.
