Dixie D’Amelio discusses breaking away from her shared identity with sister Charli
In an exclusive interview with The Blast, Dixie D’Amelio opened up about sharing an identity with her sister and how their dynamic changed over time. She said they shared almost everything while growing up, from activities to the places they went. Dixie revealed that moving away from her sister’s preferences was not easy.
Dixie compared their experiences, saying, “You live the same lives. Like the same people. Oh, you don’t like this? I won’t like this.”
She added that she later started learning what she wanted as an individual. Dixie admitted that growing up meant looking beyond their shared identity. However, she insisted that this did not mean there was a rift between them. Instead, developing separate interests gave both sisters room to experience new things.
Dixie shared that she and Charli experienced the same push and pull that many older and younger siblings face. She also emphasized the importance of having their own experiences.
“You need to learn by experiencing it,” Dixie said. She explained that even when advice comes from someone close, people sometimes need to work things out for themselves. Having grown up together, the sisters can now make their own choices without feeling the need to share every preference.
Dixie also reflected on how her experiences changed her perspective. “Even if it’s just knowledge of what not to do again,” she said.
She used reading as an example of how her interests have evolved. After leaving school, Dixie remembered thinking, “I never want to touch a book again.” She added, “Now, all I do is read.”
