Taylor Swift gave fans a rare live performance at one of Hollywood’s biggest industry events. However, an insider claims the appearance may have served a much bigger goal than simply entertaining the star-studded crowd. The singer reportedly hoped her Academy Museum Gala performance would boost her visibility with Oscar voters as she pursues her first Academy Award nomination.
Taylor Swift hoped to impress Oscar voters during her Academy Museum Gala performance, per insiders
According to The Sun, industry insiders believe Taylor Swift viewed the Oct. 17 performance as an opportunity to make an impression on Academy voters. The outlet reported that she wants to build goodwill and visibility as awards season approaches.
Swift performed a four-song set at the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles. Her set included “Blank Space,” “Love Story,” “The Fate of Ophelia” and “I Knew It, I Knew You.” The latter is her original song for Toy Story 5 and sits at the center of the reported Oscar push. Pitchfork also confirmed that the night marked the live debut of “The Fate of Ophelia.”
The timing is significant. “I Knew It, I Knew You” could compete for Best Original Song at the 2027 Academy Awards. Swift has contributed original music to movies before, including The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades Freed and Cats. Still, she has never received an Oscar nomination. Her All Too Well: The Short Film also missed out on a nomination in 2023.
In fact, Swift’s Academy Museum appearance had already renewed Oscar buzz before she took the stage. Her Toy Story 5 song and the gala’s proximity to awards season made the booking particularly notable.
Meanwhile, the Academy Museum said the annual event supports its exhibitions, screenings and education programs. This year’s gala honored John Carpenter, Colman Domingo and Charlize Theron.
The Sun’s insider claims Taylor Swift understands the value of appearing before Hollywood’s most influential figures. If that was the goal, her rare performance placed her directly in front of the industry as her Oscar campaign reportedly gathers momentum.
