Home Improvement Alum Jonathan Taylor Thomas Arrested on Obstruction Charges — Report

Former child actor Jonathan Taylor Thomas was arrested in Westlake Village, California, on September 21. The Home Improvement star was taken into custody after he allegedly interfered with a DUI investigation and resisted an officer.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was reportedly arrested in California after he ‘kicked a deputy’

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies spotted a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Westlake Boulevard and Townsgate Road, blocking traffic while the light was green. They said the driver appeared to be acting oddly and appeared intoxicated. Thomas, 45, was a passenger in the vehicle, which was stopped for a DUI investigation, USA Today reports.

Authorities stopped the vehicle and conducted field sobriety tests on the driver. The department said in a September 23 statement that Thomas “appeared intoxicated” and repeatedly got out of the vehicle and approached deputies. Authorities said his actions distracted them from the DUI investigation. The statement further stated, “Deputies attempted to detain [Thomas] for obstruction and public intoxication, at which point, [Thomas] kicked a deputy in the stomach.”

Thomas was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Authorities have not disclosed the driver’s identity. However, the driver was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The sheriff’s department said it will refer the case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.

Thomas landed his first professional acting role at age 9, playing Randy Taylor on Home Improvement (1991–1998). He appeared in more than 170 episodes before leaving the show in 1998 to prioritize his education. He later returned for a short appearance in the sitcom’s final season. Thomas remained active on television during the 2000s, with roles on Smallville, 8 Simple Rules, and Veronica Mars. He last appeared on screen in a 2015 episode of Last Man Standing, reuniting with Tim Allen, who played his TV father on Home Improvement.
