Phoebe Bridgers debuted a “Bobby” tattoo, referring to boyfriend Bo Burnham.
Meanwhile, her latest album has already sparked speculation over references to Burnham and ex Paul Mescal.
Phoebe Bridgers debuts ‘Bobby’ tattoo for Bo Burnham as speculation surrounding Gracie Abrams continues
According to Page Six, Bridgers, 32, added a new tattoo with “Bobby” written in script just below her collarbone. Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Matt Vazquez shared the new ink on Instagram. The tattoo appeared to be a tribute to her boyfriend, Bo Burnham.
The tattoo also recalled the track “Bobby” from her new album. On the song, she sings, Now I sleep in your shirts / And you live in my house / This could be the end of wanting. Burnham co-wrote seven songs on the 16-track album and contributed vocals to “Bobby.”
Bridgers’ album has also sparked debate over whether she references Burnham and her split from Mescal. Fans have also speculated that some lyrics address Mescal’s relationship with Gracie Abrams.
On the title track, Bridgers sings, I’m supposed to be married but I called it off. Another song, “The Governor’s Waltz,” contains the line, She can pretend to be me / Since she took my place in my bed, on that stage.
Pajiba noted that fans interpreted the lyrics as a possible swipe at Abrams. Fans also linked the lyric to Abrams’ use of a bedroom setup during her live performances. The setup also features imagery similar to Bridgers’ childhood bedroom.
Despite the speculation, neither Bridgers nor Abrams commented on whether the songs were targeted at any individual. Be that as it may, the songs added to the conversations around her album “Lost Weekend.”
For now, Bridgers appeared to be focused on her current relationship. Her new tattoo hinted at her commitment, while her songs offered another glimpse into her relationships.
