Phoebe Bridgers canceled her upcoming UK shows after appendicitis led her to the hospital around her 32nd birthday. The singer shared the health scare while fans celebrated her new album and Taylor Swift’s glowing praise.
Bridgers revealed the diagnosis on Instagram Stories on August 19, shortly after turning 32 on August 17. She also confirmed that the hospitalization forced her to cancel the concerts, though she promised fans she would “make it up to” them.

Bridgers shared a photo showing herself looking downcast with an IV line in her arm. She captioned the image, “I got appendicitis for my birthday,” according to PEOPLE.
The Mayo Clinic described appendicitis as inflammation of the appendix. The condition typically caused pain in the lower-right abdomen and often required surgery.
Bridgers’ health scare arrived during an otherwise celebratory week for the singer. Taylor Swift praised her new album Lost Weekend while marking Bridgers’ birthday on Instagram.
Swift wrote, “It’s her birthday, but she gave us a gift,” before calling the record an “absolute triumph in every way.”
The 14-time Grammy winner added, “To write about grief with such vulnerability and detail, and to trust the listener with this much honesty.”
Swift then finished her birthday message with, “I love you.”
Bridgers and Swift had a long creative history together. They collaborated on “Nothing New,” which appeared on Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021.
Bridgers previously called working with Swift a “dream” during a 2021 Billboard interview. She also praised Swift as an “incredible businessperson and an incredible writer.”
The pair also shared recent London plans before Bridgers’ hospitalization disrupted her UK schedule. On August 15, they attended Oli Jacobs and Laura Sisk’s wedding near Bath.
The wedding took place at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Gloucestershire. Sabrina Carpenter and Jack Antonoff also attended the celebration.
Bridgers had previously opened several dates during Swift’s Eras Tour. Her latest album now faces a different kind of spotlight after her unexpected medical emergency.
