HollyRod Foundation names Samuel L. Jackson for major award
According to Variety, Samuel L. Jackson and Richardson Jackson will receive the Clarence & Jacqueline Avant Humanitarian Award. The HollyRod Foundation will present the honor at its annual gala in Los Angeles on November 7.
The HollyRod Foundation award recognizes the couple’s longstanding commitment to philanthropic causes. Notably, previous recipients of the humanitarian prize include Viola Davis, Naomi Campbell, Don Cheadle and Bridgid Coulter.
This year’s gala carries the theme “Action in Motion.” According to HollyRod, the theme reflects its goal of turning awareness into practical support for families affected by autism and Parkinson’s disease.
Meanwhile, foundation co-founder Holly Robinson Peete said each honoree has put HollyRod’s mission into “real, everyday action.” She added that their work extends to their families, communities and people supported by the organization.
Additionally, other honorees will include former Green Bay Packers star Ahman Green. He will receive the Matthew Thomas Robinson Courage Award after publicly discussing his early-onset Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Elsewhere, Love on the Spectrum star Tanner Smith and Camille Joy Robinson will receive the HollyRod Hero Award. Therefore, the gala will recognize several people whose work or personal experiences connect with the foundation’s wider mission.
The humanitarian honor also comes during another busy year for Samuel L. Jackson professionally. For instance, his thriller Just Play Dead recently reached digital platforms. He also leads the upcoming action movie The Beast.
Still, the November ceremony will shift attention away from his screen work. Instead, the Samuel L. Jackson award will spotlight the actor and his wife’s charitable efforts.
Ultimately, the HollyRod recognition places Samuel L. Jackson’s humanitarian work alongside a career already filled with major professional honors.
