American Idol alum Caleb Flynn is on trial for allegedly killing his wife, Ashley Flynn. The prosecutors claimed that Flynn discussed killing his wife with his mistress over texts.
Prosecutors say Caleb Flynn texted his mistress about killing his wife
Caleb Flynn allegedly texted his mistress about the American Idol alum’s desire to kill his wife. Flynn is currently on trial in connection with his wife’s murder. According to TMZ, prosecutors alleged that Flynn wanted to kill his wife, Ashley Flynn, and texted his mistress about it.
In their opening statement on Friday, prosecutors said investigators found more than 100,000 messages that Flynn sent to his mistress a year before Ashley’s death.
Prosecutors say Caleb wrote in one message, “trying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail,” adding that he would kill Ashley “in a heartbeat” if he could do it without going to hell.
The night before Ashley’s murder, Caleb sent messages to his mistress; in one message, he wrote, “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow, February 16, a day I’ll never forget.”
Prosecutors accused Caleb of staging the murder scene that looked like a break-in. Ashley was shot in the back of the head while he was lying in her bed.
While prosecutors cited text messages in their case, defense lawyers denied the allegations. The defense argues there is no direct forensic evidence that connects Caleb to the murder. The defense added that investigators pressured Caleb after discovering his alleged affair.
Caleb has pleaded not guilty in the murder trial.
After Ashley was found dead, Caleb reportedly called 911 claiming that someone broke into the house and killed her. Body cam also showed Caleb appearing distraught.
The couple’s younger daughters were allegedly at home that night to testify.
Caleb is charged with murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and staging the crime.
Caleb Flynn appeared on American Idol in 2013.
