Guillermo Rodriguez made a memorable ballroom debut, though probably not for the reasons he hoped. Jimmy Kimmel’s longtime sidekick received one of the lowest scores in “Dancing With the Stars” history. Still, the crowd clearly enjoyed his performance, while the judges focused heavily on his technique.
Guillermo Rodriguez scored just 10 out of 30 during the DWTS Season 35 premiere
Guillermo and pro partner Witney Carson performed a cha-cha to Jean Knight’s “Mr. Big Stuff” during the first night of the Dancing With the Stars Season 35 premiere. According to Entertainment Weekly, Guillermo earned only 10 points out of a possible 30.
Carrie Ann Inaba gave him a 4, while Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli each handed out a 3. The scores drew loud boos from the audience. Hough acknowledged that Guillermo’s technique needed work but praised the effort behind the performance. Tonioli also emphasized its entertainment value.
Inaba highlighted Guillermo’s personality and intentional movement on the dance floor. The 10-point total placed him among the lowest-scoring contestants in “DWTS” history. Master P still holds one of the show’s lowest scores after earning an 8 during Season 2.
Despite the judges’ scores, Guillermo remained upbeat. He praised Carson and appeared thrilled to have completed his first competitive dance.
Their partnership had already attracted attention before the premiere. Carson recently discussed dancing while pregnant and working with Guillermo. Meanwhile, Guillermo joked before the season that rehearsals had produced an unexpected result. Instead of losing weight, Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick said he gained 10 pounds.
His low score also put Guillermo and Carson among the bottom three couples on premiere night. However, viewers kept the pair in the competition. Conner Leavitt and Adele Zaikman went home instead.
So, Guillermo may have entered “DWTS” history for the wrong reasons, but his ballroom run is not over yet.
