Robert De Niro Just Learned What a ‘Thirst Trap’ Is From Amy Poehler

Hollywood legend Robert De Niro got an unexpected lesson in Gen Z lingo from Amy Poehler.

During an appearance on the “Good Hang” podcast, De Niro learned just how popular he has become with younger audiences on social media.

During the episode, Poehler played back-to-back clips of young Robert De Niro’s films such as “Taxi Driver”, “The Deer Hunter”, and “Raging Bull”. According to Parade, the clips were often set to romantic music and celebrated the Oscar winner’s youthful good looks. The clips have attracted millions of views online.

Poehler also revealed that many of the fan edits were “thirst traps”. However, the actor appeared baffled by the term. The comedian then explained that thirst traps are content that makes people attracted to someone online.

Poehler comically wrapped it up by telling the actor that millions on social media were thirsting after him. The revelation surprised De Niro, who reflected on people still calling him a heartthrob decades after the clips were filmed. According to Poehler, young people were continuously rediscovering old favourites and editing them to celebrate just how handsome he was in his early career.

De Niro, who famously stays away from celebrity-driven interviews, showed a glimpse of his lesser-known humorous side in the show.

The podcast appearance comes at the back of De Niro’s “Tribeca 25” – a Netflix documentary about the 25th anniversary of the Tribeca festival. The latter was co-founded by De Niro after the September 11 attacks.

Subsequently, the wide-ranging interview also touched upon his favorite meals and career reflections. Additionally, the pair talked about his surprising popularity among Gen Z audiences.

De Niro remains one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors. He has earned two Academy Awards and has starred in classics such as “The Godfather Part II”, “Goodfellas”, and “Casino”.
