Lily Allen Breaks Her Silence on David Harbour’s Reaction to West End Girl

Lily Allen has responded to David Harbour’s comments about her West End Girl album. The 41-year-old singer-songwriter described his reaction as “a generous thing.” The album was released several months after the couple split in February 2025.

The Stranger Things actor said the album “wasn’t my experience,” but added that he still had respect for Allen. He told Variety in June, “It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.” The actor also noted that he prefers not to put his personal life in the spotlight. “Stories are complex, and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience,” he added.

When asked about Harbour’s comments in a recent interview with The Cut, Allen replied, “I think that was a generous thing for him to say.” “He’s having a real moment of success as well, right? He’s been nominated for an Emmy, and it’s great. We’re all doing our own thing, and we’re all doing what we’re supposed to do,” she said and further stated, “If there’s one thing I know about David Harbour, it’s that he’s an excellent actor.”

Allen is currently performing around the world as part of her West End Girl tour. Released in October 2025, the album explores the end of a difficult relationship following her separation from her ex-husband. Allen and Harbour began dating in 2019 and married the following year in Las Vegas. After five years of marriage, they separated and finalized their divorce in February 2025. The singer, who is a mother of two, sharing Ethel, 14, and Marnie, 13, with ex-husband Sam, is currently in a relationship with writer Jonah Freud.
