Lindsay Clancy’s Mistrial Brings New $3M Goal for Parents’ Fundraiser

A fundraiser for Lindsay Clancy’s parents has increased its goal.

The case centers on a former Massachusetts nurse charged in connection with the deaths of her three young children.

A GoFundMe page for Lindsay Clancy’s parents has increased its goal to $3 million. According to People, the fundraiser has already raised more than $1.2 million and is on track to reach the projected goal.

Clancy was charged in January 2023. It was in connection with the deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan. After the children’s deaths at their Duxbury home, Clancy attempted suicide by slitting her wrists and jumping from a second-story window.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. She does not deny killing the children. Meanwhile, her defense argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and overmedication at the time.

She was charged with first-degree murder. The weeks-long trial ended recently, with the jury also considering second-degree murder and manslaughter charges. However, the judge declared a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

GoFundMe organizer Brandee Mulligan said she is raising the goal because the mistrial means the legal proceedings are still ongoing. According to the fundraiser, Clancy’s parents, Mike and Paula Musgrove, have been traveling long distances for court appearances in their daughter’s case. They have also relocated from Connecticut to Massachusetts.

“Their lives have largely been put on hold while they have continued doing what parents do: showing up for their child during the unimaginable,” Mulligan wrote. “That has come at an enormous financial cost. This fundraiser is not asking anyone to agree on Lindsay, her case, or what the outcome of her trial should be.”

The case has drawn national attention as it sits at the intersection of mental health, criminal responsibility, and maternal care.

The defense argues that Clancy was not in a stable state of mind when she killed the children. However, prosecutors argue that she was aware of her actions.
