Josh Hutcherson says fans still tell him ‘Bridge to Terabithia’ traumatized them as children

Josh Hutcherson apologized to fans for Bridge to Terabithia in an Instagram video. Refinery Australia shared a video of Hutcherson. When asked about the trauma caused by the film’s plot, he said, “I was one of them. Sorry. It’s just, you know, that movie. I have so many people come up to me today in the streets, and they literally tell me that I traumatized them as children.”

Hutcherson added, “and that they were, went to this movie with their families thinking it was going to be this sweet movie with the fantasy world that these kids were building, and the things go awry.”

Bridge to Terabithia featured a devastating storyline that became part of the childhood memories of many viewers who went to watch the movie in 2007.

The studio marketed the film as a fantasy movie with a trailer featuring CGI creatures, treehouses, and a magical world. However, the storyline was based on poverty, neglect, bullying, and grief.  Many fans still remember the story as a traumatic experience.

Hutcherson added, “So, I’m sorry, and you’re welcome, as I think it’s a great intro into grief.”

Following his apology video, fans were quick to react. One Instagram user said, “Personally, we need more movies like this. Absolutely sad at the end but having an ending where it’s not a fairytale ending is refreshing.”

Another user said, “I’m 42 and this movie f…ck up my head ?.”

One Reddit user said, “Great movie, probably would never have watched it if I knew what it was about. It did fuck me up for a while.”

The movie featured Josh Hutcherson as Jesse Aarons and AnnaSophia Robb as Leslie Burke, Jesse’s best friend.
