Meghan Markle is preparing to reconnect with charities after returning to Britain. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly wants to support causes she previously championed. She is also considering new charitable opportunities as her family settles in. Her return could bring more public engagements in the UK.
Meghan Markle plans to reconnect with UK charities as she returns to Britain with Prince Harry.
According to The Times, Meghan wants to “rekindle” relationships with British charities. A source said she wants to support causes she previously backed. She is also considering new causes to support in Britain. Her activities are expected to develop gradually.
Meghan is particularly interested in reconnecting with Smart Works. The charity helps unemployed and vulnerable women return to employment. It provides clothing, networking opportunities and interview training. Meghan became its patron after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
She previously worked with British fashion retailers on the Smart Works campaign. The collaboration included Jigsaw, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer. Meghan launched the Smart Set capsule collection with the retailer in 2019. She also described supporting women as a shared responsibility.
Meghan has not public Smart Works appearance since moving to the US. However, she released a statement for the charity’s tenth anniversary in 2023. She praised its work and said it was “transforming lives.” The Times reported that she remains deeply passionate about the organization.
Her return could also bring a new approach to media coverage. The Times reported that Harry and Meghan may consider a new media framework. The plan could determine how journalists cover their public engagements. The couple previously rejected the royal rota system after leaving Britain.
Meanwhile, Harry is preparing for several charity engagements this month. His commitments include the Invictus Games and WellChild. He will support Imperial College’s Center for Blast Injury Studies. The Duke is expected to increase his Invictus work before the 2017 Birmingham Games.
Despite their renewed UK presence, the Sussexes remain private citizens. Sources close to King Charles stressed there will be no royal status change. The couple reportedly accept they will not return to formal royal events. Meghan’s charity work could therefore become a major part of her UK public role.
