Jane Fonda made a striking claim about tech billionaires during the Venice Film Festival. The actress and activist spoke at Diane von Furstenberg’s DVF Awards. She discussed politics, Hollywood and the influence of wealthy tech figures. Fonda then shared her unusual theory about their desire to live forever.
Jane Fonda said some tech billionaires want to live forever and could turn the rest of society into ‘tradwives’
Fonda criticized what she described as wealthy “tech bros” and oligarchs. She claimed they wanted to escape the limits faced by ordinary people. The actress made the remarks during a press gathering in Venice reported by Variety.
“They want to live forever, while they’re killing the rest of us,” Fonda said. She argued that some billionaires believed normal laws did not apply to them. Fonda specifically pointed to what she called the “laws of physics” and “natural laws.”
She then connected that belief to their inability to have biological children. Fonda offered a striking theory about what could happen next. She claimed these wealthy men could use reboots as replacements for having children.
“The other [thing] is that because these guys can’t have babies, they’ll create robots,” Fonda said. “That’ll be their babies,” she continued.
Fonda then suggested their ambitions could affect the wider population. She claimed billionaires could eventually turn other women into traditional homemakers. “They’ll just turn the rest of us into tradwives, who have a lot of babies too,” she said.
Fonda also claimed that voting rights could eventually become threatened. “Then they’ll take away the vote,” she said. The actress immediately rejected that possibility, adding, “And we’re not going to stand for it.”
Her comments came during a wider discussion about technology and society. Fonda also criticized artificial intelligence and data centers. She said AI could threaten people’s livelihoods and communities.
The actress has remained outspoken about political and social issues. At the awards event, she also discussed Hollywood’s proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Fonda argued the deal could hurt consumers and cost entertainment workers jobs.
The DVF Awards honored Fonda alongside four other women this year. Von Furstenberg dedicated the evening to Gloria Steinem. Fonda also honored Steinem during her acceptance speech.
