Danny DeVito opened up about why the much-anticipated “Twins” sequel never made it to the screen.
The actor revealed that with director Ivan Reitman’s death, the project came to a halt. Despite concerted efforts put in by DeVito and co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger, the project did not get a start.

According to Entertainment Weekly, DeVito revealed that the director’s death in 2022 impacted “Triplets” the proposed follow-up to the 1988 comedy “Twins”. The project would have reunited DeVito with Schwarzenegger and added a third sibling.
“Yeah, because Ivan was passionate about doing it. He was writing the script, and then he passed away, God rest his soul, I loved him so much,” DeVito said. “I think the Reitman family owns it, and I guess they didn’t want to pursue it.”
The original “Twins” was a major hit and was loved by fans. The fans frequently got updates on Triplets, which at that time would have starred Tracy Morgan as the third sibling.
DeVito, however, remains hopeful about a reunion with Schwarzenegger on screen. “We’re both looking, we’ve come close. Warner Bros. is interested in doing it with us, and we would love to,” he said.
The actor also said that they are looking for alternative possibilities. “Because we don’t have to be triplets. I’d like to see us be a little contentious, have some fun,” he explained. He also shared that his bond with Schwarzenegger remains undaunted decades after “Twins.” “I go over to [his house] all the time. He keeps me smoking stogies,” he joked before impersonating Schwarzenegger: “I love him very much, he’s crazy. Make me some strudel, I bring you a stogie.”
DeVito is currently starring in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. The show has hit the record books for being the longest-running live-action sitcom in U.S. television history by season count.
