Theron recently appeared at a screening of Mad Max: Fury Road. She spoke to an audience at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The actress was asked whether she had positive memories from filming.
“I actually do, okay!” Theron replied as the audience laughed. The reaction appeared connected to her widely reported on-set difficulties. Theron and Tom Hardy reportedly struggled to get along during production.
However, Theron chose to share a much sweeter memory. Her oldest daughter was only six weeks old during filming. As a single mother, Theron said she did not bring a nanny.
“All of the girls in this film and Nick Hoult basically raised her,” Theron recalled. The cast spent six months filming in Namibia. Her daughter remained close to the production throughout that time.
“She was in the rig with us,” Theron said. She explained that she fed her daughter between takes. Her costars would then hold the baby while she slept.
Theron also remembered some amusing moments involving Nicholas Hoult. “She’d fall asleep, or she’d puke on Nick!” Theron said. The actress described those memories as especially meaningful.
Theron said her daughter learned to walk during the movie’s production. She said that experience created a deep connection to the film. The Oscar winner then addressed the audience’s earlier reaction.
“Yeah, all of you who thought I would tell a different story?” Theron asked. “Shame on you!” she added as the audience erupted in laughter. The actress appeared to be playfully referencing her reported feud with Hardy.
Theron previously discussed the difficult production in Blood, Sweat, and Chrome. She admitted that the shoot had been challenging for everyone involved. Hardy also later acknowledged feeling overwhelmed during production.
