Charlize Theron has two daughters, August Theron and Jackson Theron. It is obvious that being the daughter of a millionaire actress and producer comes with certain privileges, and fans often think about those advantages. Now, the actress has opened up about the same topic and candidly discussed her daughters growing up “in privilege.”
Charlize Theron explains how raising her daughters in privilege influences her activism and values
Recently, the South African-American actress spoke exclusively with People during her 2026 Block Party outreach project. During the conversation, she explained how she has always cared about child welfare and how raising her daughters in privilege has influenced her activism and values.
Theron said, “I think my interest in working with young people— and especially young girls — that’s kind of been part of my life before I had kids.”
“And I think once my kids leave [the house], [it] will still be part of what I find is important, you know? When you have two young girls … when they live in privilege, if anything, it makes me realize that I want safety for every young person.” She added
Later, Charlize continued, “I see that my kids are safe and they have a safe space and they can flourish and they can succeed, not just survive. And I want that for young people.”
For context, both of Charlize Theron’s daughters, Jackson Theron and August Theron, are adopted. Jackson is a transgender girl, and the actress has publicly spoken about identifying her as a girl. Charlize Theron adopted Jackson in 2012, the same year she was born.
As for her other daughter, August Theron, Charlize adopted her in 2015, the same year she was born.
In 2018, The Devil’s Advocate star revealed that even when she was in a relationship, she was always honest with her partner about adoption and how she envisioned her family one day. Charlize Theron also said that adoption was never a second option for her but had always been a top priority.
