Alex Cooper’s Unwell Woes Continue as Disney Sinks ‘Love Overboard’

Alex Cooper’s Unwell brand has hit another setback. The podcaster’s reality TV venture will not return for another season. The cancellation follows recent trouble for another Unwell business. Still, Cooper’s relationship with Disney appears far from over.

Disney canceled Alex’s Love Overboard after the series failed to find an audience

Page Six reports that Disney canceled Love Overboard after just one season. Sources told the outlet that the show “wasn’t finding its audience.” Cooper served as an executive producer through her Unwell Productions company. The dating competition was hosted by former Bachelorette star Gabby Windey.

The nine-episode series premiered on Hulu in March. It followed 22 singles as they searched for love aboard a yacht. The cancellation comes after Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Unwell planned to shutter its beverage business. Those two developments have created a difficult period for Cooper’s growing media company.

However, the setbacks appear to represent only a small bump for Unwell. Patrick Whitesell’s investment firm, WTSL, recently invested in the company. Reports valued Unwell at $500 million following the investment. The outlet also said that Cooper recently departed from UTA and signed with rival agency CAA.

A source told Page Six that Disney still maintains a strong relationship with Cooper. “Disney has a great relationship with Alex and is in development with her on a few projects,” the insider said. One upcoming project already has some major names attached. In June, Hulu announced Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley will star in You Deserve To Know, a drama from Cooper’s Unwell company.

Cooper rose to fame as the co-host of Call Her Daddy, a hugely popular sex and dating podcast. Later, she signed a reported $60 million, three-year contract with Spotify and got to be one of podcasting’s biggest stars. Disney and Cooper did not comment on the Love Overboard cancellation. For now, Unwell’s reality TV experiment has ended, but Cooper still has several projects in development.
