Hunter recalled seeing several SUVs arrive outside his Washington, D.C., home. His father was vice president during the visits, requiring Secret Service protection. Hunter said Joe Biden arrived at the house with a reduced motorcade.
“My dad showed up. He literally showed up at the house twice,” Hunter said. He recalled his father simply knocking on the door during those visits. The former first son described the encounters as particularly difficult moments.
Hunter said he would hear several vehicles arriving outside his home. He then looked through the window and saw his father’s motorcade. According to Hunter, Joe Biden would approach the door with Secret Service agents nearby.
Hunter said he was visibly struggling when he opened the door. He recalled his father repeatedly calling and checking on him. According to Hunter, Joe Biden wanted to know what his plans were.
“Please, like, what are we gonna do tomorrow? What’s the plan?” Hunter recalled. He said he would assure his father that he had a plan. However, his struggle with addiction continued during that period.
Hunter later traveled to Los Angeles during his addiction struggles. He checked into the Chateau Marmont and stayed there for weeks. He described the period as one of the darkest chapters of his life.
The 56-year-old has since spoken publicly about his past addiction. He also recalled the kindness shown by people during difficult periods. Hunter said those experiences remained memorable years after his recovery.
His latest story offered another glimpse into his account of his father’s efforts to support him. According to Hunter, Joe Biden continued reaching out during his darkest moments. Hunter described the visits as moments when his father was trying to support his struggling son.
