Jill Biden said Joe Biden will live with cancer for the rest of his life
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Jill said Joe had been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer after leaving office. She explained that while many patients recovered, his cancer had already spread to his bones.
“Which means that he will forever live with cancer, and we have to be mindful of it every three months, testing and medicines,” Jill said. She added that the cancer journey became “constant,” “daily,” and emotionally challenging for their family.
She also addressed questions surrounding the timing of Joe’s diagnosis. Jill recalled noticing he woke seven times every night after leaving the White House. She said physicians had followed American Urological Association guidelines, which did not recommend PSA testing for men over 70. When his symptoms continued, she insisted he visit another specialist in Philadelphia. “I never thought it would be prostate cancer,” she admitted during the interview.
The conversation also turned toward Hunter Biden’s addiction. Jill believed Beau Biden’s death had “for sure” worsened his struggles. She admitted she once questioned what more the family could have done before realizing addiction was an illness. Jill praised Hunter’s recovery, saying he openly discussed addiction and helped others after spending nearly a decade in recovery.
She also reflected on watching the East Wing demolished. Jill described the moment as “heartbreaking” and compared it to watching “a rare and precious animal that was just gutted.”
Before the appearance ended, Jill admitted she no longer believed she would see a woman become president during her lifetime. She recalled confidently campaigning for Kamala Harris and expecting history to be made. Instead, she said she felt “shocked” after learning Harris had lost the election the following morning.
