Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sam Altman Dinner Is on Hold After Backlash: Report

Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly put her controversial Hamptons dinner for Sam Altman on hold. The private gathering quickly drew criticism after details of the invitation surfaced online. Now, a source claims the backlash changed those plans. In fact, the star-studded event may not happen at all.

Criticism forced a change to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sam Altman dinner plans

A source told People that Paltrow postponed the dinner because of the reaction surrounding it. “The party likely won’t happen,” the insider added.

The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, at Paltrow’s home in Amagansett, New York. Journalist Matthew Belloni first reported that guests were receiving invitations for a private, off-the-record dinner honoring the OpenAI CEO.

The invitation soon circulated online. Critics questioned Paltrow’s decision to celebrate Altman as Hollywood continues debating artificial intelligence and its effect on creative jobs.

The controversy had already prompted Paltrow to respond. On Aug. 20, she mocked the uproar on Instagram with parody versions of the invitation.

Instead of Altman, her fake guest list included Shrek, M3GAN, Jessica Rabbit and Samantha Jones. She also joked about serving “swordfish burritos” and “cheddar foam lattes.”

Her response followed earlier criticism over the leaked invitation. Another report had also examined Paltrow’s growing interest in AI, including investments and discussions on her Goop podcast.

Meanwhile, the latest report claims Altman is unhappy with how the situation unfolded. A source said he wants to strengthen relationships in Hollywood as concerns around AI continue. Neither Paltrow nor Altman has publicly confirmed the postponement.

For now, the planned gathering remains on ice. What began as a private evening honoring Sam Altman has instead become another flashpoint in Hollywood’s uneasy relationship with artificial intelligence.
