Liam Payne’s cousin Ross Harris has opened up about the singer’s struggles with fame and the isolation he faced.
Liam Payne died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31. He fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
Ross Harris says Liam had become increasingly isolated months before his death
According to Daily Mail, Harris is regretting missing the last call that Payne made to him. Speaking on “Good Morning Britain,” he explained, “He called me, I guess the afternoon our time. I was in a session with Jordan Rams who I wrote the song with. I think my phone was down so I missed it and saw it a few hours later and thought I will call him black. He added, “We finished and I called him and it was already too late which is a strange thing to try and process.” Harris said that not answering the last phone call was “a regret that lives with me forever.”
Almost two years after his death, Harris also revealed that Payne was struggling with fame. The singer said, ‘It looks like it’s all glitz and glamour from the outside, and there are amazing opportunities and an amazing life you can have.”
Pyne’s cousin added, “On the other side, there is an isolation and loneliness very hard to know, one who is in your corner, two who is rooting for you and three who is there for the fame and money.”
“He had everything and nothing at the same time,” Harris noted. He explained saying that though Payne was flooded with love and support from his fans, he missed having someone who would stick by the real Liam.
The singer appeared on the show to promote his new song “Bones”. The proceeds will go to charity for the causes that were close to Liam’s heart.
Liam Payne was a singer and former member of One Direction. He later launched a solo career with hits including Strip That Down and For You before his death in 2024.
