Kyle Sandilands opened up about Keith Urban’s pre-split text and remaining neutral
According to Nine, Sandilands discussed the former couple’s divorce on his Kyle Sandilands Live show Wednesday. He stated that before the split was made public, Urban texted him. Urban told him, “Bro, when I get there, we MUST catch up.” At the time, Sandilands didn’t give much thought to the message.
Urban planned to come to Australia when he contacted Sandilands. Looking back, Sandilands thinks his friend may have wanted support. “I looked back at that and thought, ‘aha,’” he said. There was no meeting between the two following the message.
Sandilands also remembered an older interview with Urban on his former Kyle & Jackie O radio show. He recalled joking about how he could not watch Kidman in steamy movie scenes. Sandilands said Urban reacted with, “Yeah, next question.” The response made Sandilands think something could have been wrong.
“I thought, ‘There’s something going on there,’” Sandilands said. He then brushed the feeling aside as he felt that Urban and Kidman were a great couple. Producer Jaimee “Mayo” Blazquez agreed with his memory of the awkward exchange. She said staff realized Urban had “some real feelings there” during the moment.
Sandilands also shared his thoughts on why Urban and Kidman ended their marriage. “Some of these relationships just come to a natural end,” he said. He described Urban as a “really nice guy” and Kidman as “super sweet.” Sandilands said both stars remain private despite their fame and added, “I wouldn’t take sides.”
