Decades after divorcing Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman made a rare comment about their marriage. They first met on the set of the 1990 film “Days of Thunder,” and their whirlwind romance resulted in marriage that same year. However, they split in 2000 and have since rarely spoken about each other.
Nicole Kidman reflects on marrying Tom Cruise at a young age in Vogue interview
While speaking to British Vogue‘s Giles Hattersley in a new feature, Nicole Kidman reflected on tying the knot with Tom Cruise in her early twenties. When asked how she maintained her confidence amid flashing cameras and curious eyes, she said, “Strangely enough, I feel comfortable. Is that weird? That’s so weird.”
She laughed and added, “But you have to remember literally, because of who I married at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22. [My life has been] more time like that than not. My memory of it not being that is quite blurry, because I was really young.”
Recalling her decade-long marriage to Tom Cruise, the Australian star said, “Yeah, I got married so young. Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple.”
Kidman admitted that she had been warned that marrying at such a young age could adversely affect her career. She continued to explain her thought process at the time, saying, “I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married.’ And then I was his ‘wife’ and they were like, ‘See, we told you.’ I’m like, ‘So what? I wasn’t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I’ll throw my career away. I don’t care.'”
The “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” star shares two kids, Bella and Connor, with Cruise. She married Keith Urban in 2006 and shares two daughters with him. However, she called it quits with the musician last year after 19 years of marriage.
