Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman has opened up about her decision to marry Tom Cruise in the early 1990s despite industry warnings about her acting prospects.
Speaking to British Vogue, Nicole Kidman revealed how many people told her to not marry Tom Cruise when she was 23, back in 1990. She was warned that her career would fade away. However, she ignored all that advice and went ahead with the marriage.
“I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple. I remember people saying to me, ‘OK, well, this is really going to affect your career. ‘I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married.'”
The Oscar winner added, “And then I was his ‘wife’ and they were like, ‘See, we told you.’ I’m like, ‘So what? I wasn’t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I’ll throw my career away. I don’t care.'”

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise originally met on the set of sports drama Days of Thunder in 1990. Soon, they came close and the bond got so strong that they eventually got married in the same year, on Christmas Eve.
Over their decade-long marriage, the pair became one of Hollywood’s most high-profile power couples, co-starring together in Ron Howard’s 1992 western romance Far and Away and Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut.
The Hollywood stars stayed together for quite some time before getting divorced in 2001. Kidman later married singer Keith Urban in 2006 before officially parting ways with him last year.
Speaking of her professional journey, Kidman will soon appear in the awaited sequel to her 1998 fantasy romance movie Practical Magic. It will also feature another acclaimed actress, Sandra Bullock.
Practical Magic 2 will see Kidman and Bullock reprising their iconic roles of sisters Gillian and Sally Owens. The story will be set 25 years after the original installment.
