Norah O’Donnell Goes From CBS Sideline To Major New Role Under Bari Weiss

Norah O’Donnell may be heading back to CBS Mornings. The 52-year-old journalist is reportedly under serious consideration for a role on the morning show, now overseen by CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss. The move would mark her return to the program seven years after she left to anchor CBS Evening News.

Norah O’Donnell was promoted to 60 Minutes correspondent and tapped to host CBS podcast Healthful

O’Donnell’s role at CBS changed dramatically in early 2025 when pre-Skydance management removed her from her flagship role, leaving her in a less prominent position at the network. Oliver Darcy of Status reported, Since David Ellison installed Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief, O’Donnell’s fortunes have radically reversed. The report claims O’Donnell has worked to build a relationship with Weiss and was subsequently given a more prominent role on 60 Minutes.

O’Donnell received a major boost when new Executive Producer Nick Bilton promoted her to a full-time 60 Minutes correspondent. In addition, she was selected to host the newly launched health-focused podcast Healthful.

As per the report, O’Donnell has recently been filling in on the morning show and appeared in a recent promo that reportedly drew attention within CBS News. Although several other candidates are reportedly being considered, O’Donnell appears to be emerging as the frontrunner. The other names include GMA3 host Eva Pilgrim, former Fox & Friends and The View host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and CBS News correspondent Kelly O’Grady.CBS could soon name its next choice for the role, which has been vacant since Tony Dokoupil took over as anchor of CBS Evening News in December.

O’Donnell’s rise comes amid a contentious CBS restructuring that has seen longtime staffers like Scott Pelley depart. The 68-year-old broadcast journalist, who had been part of the program since 2004, was reportedly fired by Bilton on June 2.
