Ryan Lochte’s ex-wife Kayla Rae Reid explains why she rejects the term ‘co-parenting’
In a new People interview, Reid said she does not call their arrangement “co-parenting.” She explained that co-parenting requires both parents to act with “consideration and respect.”
Instead, Reid calls their setup “parallel parenting.” She said the approach allows each parent to handle their responsibilities separately, with less direct interaction between them.
The Ryan Lochte divorce became final on July 1 after a lengthy split. Reid also marked the milestone on Instagram, where she announced that she was officially divorced. The former couple shares three children.
Meanwhile, Reid told People that she now has primary custody. She said Lochte sees the children four days each month, while they divide holidays and summertime.
Money also became a major issue during the divorce. According to Reid, she covered many household and child-related expenses and still has more than $40,000 in costs that will go unpaid. Court records reviewed by People show that Lochte will pay $1,000 per month in support and share daycare expenses.
In addition, Reid claimed Lochte once offered her $25,000 for custody and permission to move the children to Missouri. She said that she rejected the offer.
Lochte, however, gave People a different perspective on the public dispute. He said he has taken responsibility for past mistakes but does not plan to answer every allegation or characterization. He also said protecting his children’s privacy remains his priority.
For Ryan Lochte’s ex-wife, parenting after the divorce now looks very different. Kayla Rae Reid’s co-parenting approach centers on limited contact and separate responsibilities.
