Prince Harry and Prince William’s rift reportedly began in childhood. Former protection officer Ken Wharfe, who worked closely with Princess Diana, recalled the brothers often arguing. He said they once clashed during a family drive to Highgrove, leaving Diana stunned.

According to a report by The Express, Harry and William have spent years apart. Their relationship deteriorated further after Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Their feud later intensified after Harry published his memoir Spare. In the book, he made several claims about William, including an allegation that his older brother physically confronted him during an argument.
The brothers have remained largely estranged since then. They reportedly have not spoken since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, despite Harry making several trips back to the U.K. and reconnecting with their father, King Charles. However, Wharfe’s recollection suggests that tension between the brothers existed long before their adult disagreements became public.
Speaking to The Express US on behalf of Casino.org, Wharfe recalled, “I always remember one journey down to Highgrove with William and Harry. The nanny was sitting between them in the back, trying to keep the peace, because they were constantly arguing — which, I suppose, is perfectly normal between brothers.”
Diana drove the car when she turned around. She warned her sons that she would end the trip and return to London if they did not stop fighting. The warning briefly silenced the boys, but Harry soon made an unexpected comment that caught Diana and the others off guard. According to Wharfe, “Harry leant across the nanny, looked at William and said, ‘William, it’s all right for you. You’ll be King one day, so therefore I can do what I want.’”
The comment reportedly surprised Diana so much that she immediately looked toward Wharfe for an explanation. Wharfe recalled seeing the princess’s reaction as she drove and said, “Where on earth did he get that from?”. William, meanwhile, reportedly did not have much of a response to his younger brother.
