Cristiano Ronaldo had a hilarious reaction after hundreds of fans and tourists gathered at the wrong wedding venue in his hometown of Madeira, Portugal. Rumors had spread online that the 41-year-old soccer star was planning to marry his fiancée, Georgina Rodríguez. On Saturday, Aug. 8, crowds gathered outside Funchal Cathedral, hoping to watch the couple exchange vows. Instead, they got a very different surprise.
Cristiano Ronaldo reacted with humor after fans crashed the wrong nuptials
The crowd became so large that it blocked the cathedral entrance. However, when the bride arrived, everyone realized that this was not Ronaldo and Rodríguez’s wedding. The bride was a local woman named Nicole, who was marrying a man named Fábio.
Photos and videos of the crowd were shared on Instagram, and Ronaldo appeared to find the mix-up funny. He responded to one post with several laughing emojis.
Funchal Cathedral later shared photos of Nicole and Fábio on Facebook and congratulated the couple. The church also explained that the large number of journalists and tourists made it difficult for the bride to enter.
The confusion came after weeks of wedding rumors surrounding Ronaldo and Rodríguez.
In late July, Rodríguez shared photos from a vacation with Ronaldo. According to The Blast, fans noticed that the couple appeared to be wearing matching diamond-studded rings alongside luxury watches in one of the pictures. The detail quickly fueled rumors that the couple could be planning a secret wedding.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez had already confirmed their plans to marry in August 2025. Rodríguez shared a photo of her large oval-cut engagement ring and wrote, “Sí, quiero. En esta y en todas mis vidas,” which translates to, “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
While fans wait for an actual wedding announcement, Ronaldo is also reportedly making major career plans. He is reportedly moving into scripted television with Day 1s, a drama series he is producing and appearing in.
