Fans expecting a night of timeless hits instead received heartbreaking news moments before showtime. Earth, Wind & Fire abruptly postponed its San Francisco concert after a medical emergency involving one of the band’s members.
The legendary group had been scheduled to perform alongside Lionel Richie at Chase Center.

The band shared the unexpected update just minutes before taking the stage. They announced the postponement in a statement on Instagram but did not identify the member involved.
“We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band,” Earth, Wind & Fire wrote in the statement.
The group also confirmed the concert would return on a later date. “Tonight’s show with Lionel Richie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon,” the statement continued. Ticket holders could either keep their tickets for the new date or request refunds. The band concluded, “We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone’s understanding.”
Shortly afterward, TMZ reported additional details from San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Mariano Elias. According to the outlet, emergency crews responded to a “cardiac incident” at Chase Center before the concert began.
Elias told TMZ that a fire engine and private ambulance arrived at the venue. Paramedics transported one patient to a nearby hospital. The patient remained in critical condition, although officials did not release the person’s identity because of privacy laws.
The incident marked another health scare during the “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour. Lionel Richie previously cut short a June performance in St. Paul, Minnesota, after telling fans he felt “dizzy” and “strange.” He postponed two concerts before returning to the stage on June 30.
The tour is currently scheduled to continue with a stop at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. However, organizers have not announced whether upcoming dates will change following Thursday night’s emergency.
