Beyoncé and Jay-Z have reunited for new music after seven years. The couple surprised fans by releasing a remix of Beyoncé’s “Morning Dew (Donk)” on Wednesday, Aug. 5. During the track, Jay-Z directly addresses critics with lyrics that target the online trolls. The release is also another significant milestone in the long musical collaboration between the couple.
Jay-Z uses his guest verse to respond to social media trolls
Jay-Z starts his verse off with a hard-hitting message for critics. “If you ain’t riding for the gang, shut the f*** up,” he raps before Beyoncé repeats, “Shut the f*** up.” Jay-Z continues, “What you n****s say? You know you love us / Talkin’ reckless on the set / They only hate us on the ‘net / You n****s tweet a lot / All you do is twit / Pop it on the pods, but you ain’t doing s***.”
He ends the verse with another confident statement. “We just making love / We just gettin’ rich / Y’all keep doin’ that / We keep doin’ this,” Jay-Z raps. The remix marks the first official collaboration between Beyoncé and Jay-Z since “Mood 4 Eva” from 2019’s The Gift. The duo had previously collaborated on tracks such as “‘03 Bonnie & Clyde,” “Crazy in Love,” “Déjà Vu,” “Drunk in Love” and “Part II (On the Run).”
The remix also arrives as Beyoncé celebrates the upcoming 20th anniversary edition of her second album, B’Day. The project’s lead single is her solo rendition of “Morning Dew (Donk)”. She originally recorded it during her 2013 visual album, Beyoncé, but decided to remove it from the final album compilation. In 2023, a demo version was leaked online and was picked up by TikTok, leading to the official version on July 4.
