K. Michelle is standing by Morgan Wallen despite the country music singer’s 2021 racial slur controversy. During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the RHOA star addressed Wallen’s use of the slur and said she has gotten to know him personally. She believes the public has overlooked important context surrounding the incident. Michelle made the comments while promoting her upcoming country album, Jesus and Whiskey, which is set for release in October. She also spoke about her experiences navigating the country music industry and why Wallen remains one of her favorite artists.

The Blast reported that Michelle told the hosts Wallen has long been her favorite artist. She recalled how his song “Talkin’ Tennessee” changed the way she viewed country music. When Charlamagne tha God brought up Wallen’s 2021 racial slur controversy, Michelle acknowledged the incident but said she later heard his side of the story.
Referring to the 2021 incident, Michelle said Wallen had been speaking to one of his Black bandmates or crew members when he used the racial slur. She stressed that she was not defending the language but argued that people “pick and choose” their outrage depending on the situation.
“That is someone that I started to form a relationship with and heard him out, and he is Black culture. He loves Black culture,” Michelle said. However, she added that using the slur was still “not a cool thing” and acknowledged that it remains deeply hurtful.
Michelle also claimed that many Black people were not initially focused on the controversy until it received widespread media attention. She went on to describe feeling uncomfortable while attending one of Wallen’s concerts and said the country singer later reached out to her.
Wallen publicly apologized after a video surfaced in 2021 showing him using the racial slur outside his Tennessee home. At the time, he accepted responsibility for his actions and urged fans not to defend him. Since then, the singer has continued releasing music.
