Tate McRae, who has faced MAGA backlash over her associations with figures linked to the movement, has responded to the criticism. In a recent interview, the singer shared her stance on the backlash.
Tate McRae responded to being labeled MAGA
Tate McRae reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her song “What I Want” featuring Morgan Wallen. Soon after the achievement, some social media users labeled her a MAGA supporter. This was because of her association with the country singer. Later, her rumored relationship with Jack Hughes further fueled speculation about her political views.
When asked about the MAGA backlash, the singer told Variety, “I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour.” Last year, she promoted a “Little Miss Possessive” hoodie, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Trevor Project, an organization focused on suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ+ youth.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I’m putting my energy towards,” she added.
Fans quickly reacted to her response to the MAGA backlash. One Reddit user said, “On this topic, silence speaks volumes, you MAGA coward.” Another commented, “I don’t think it’s obvious at all what she believes or supports. Who she surrounds herself with and who she works with are very contradictory to what she claims to support.”
One user said, “She may not be explicitly MAGA, but she surely does not care enough about anything to be firmly against it, which is MAGA enough for me, I suppose.”
The singer has faced criticism following the release of her song with Morgan Wallen, who has publicly endorsed Donald Trump. Her rumored relationship with Jack Hughes, who was photographed wearing a Trump hat at the White House, also contributed to the online criticism.
